Our story

Clos Amsterdam is a new winebar, including restaurant where you are brought along in everything that makes wine so beautiful. Original dishes and handmade wines come together in a relax setting. The wines on our menu are all from small winegrowers, where they work with respect for nature and the craft of winemaking is carried out with utmost attention.


Hi there, I am Rutger and I am the owner of winebar Clos. As part of my study, Hospitality Management, I started as an intern at Grapedistrict in 2006. After my internship I did not want to leave anymore and soon I opened two new wineshops. After this I dedicated my time selling wine to restaurants & bars. I saw a tremendous opportunity to translate the wine philosophy of Grapedistrict to restaurants and bars. With great success! Nowadays Grapedistrict supplies more than 250 restaurants and bars. The last couple of years I intensively trained staff of these restaurants and bars with regards to their wineselection. Besides that, I also setup and run several winebars at festivals. But now its time to use this experience and energy to start my own adventure: Winebar Clos.


But where is the name Clos coming from? Clos means ‘walled vineyard’ in French. In France, small vineyards are separated from the neighbours with stacked stones. From these grapes, special cuvees are made. A wine from a Clos is therefore synonymous with character and craftsmanship. Clos Amsterdam is a walled winebar, where the same values are brought to live in an urban environment.
